The development strategy of the Warsaw Commuter Railway (WKD) within the next few years is closely connected to the plans of the Company’s stockholders: the regional government of the Mazovian Voivodeship and 6 municipalities, where the passenger train services are rendered.
The major strategic objective is the implementation of the major projects supplemented with additional minor projects coming forward with is the development of the system of public transport in the Warsaw agglomeration by improving the availability and quality of the train services rendered by the Warsaw Commuter Railway (WKD) to the extent of passenger rail transport. This development is to be achieved by improving the safety, efficiency and reliability by means of obtaining a total number of 20 new rail vehicles (including 14 purchased under the project implemented within the framework of the Regional Operational Programme of the Mazovian Voivodeship, co-financed by the ERDF, and 6 rail vehicles intended to be purchased within the project co-financed by the SPCP) and providing wide access to up-to-date information on the rendered train services.
Additional objectives (social and economic objectives) intended to be achieved:
- Increasing the access to the basic services rendered by the Company for the benefit of travellers, especially for the people with disabilities and socially excluded,
- Improving the flow capacity of the railway line (reduction of the time of travel),
- Improving the safety of the rail traffic,
- Achieving a more attractive frequency of trains,
- Increasing the competitiveness of the areas located along the WKD lines,
- Inhibiting the falling the number of rail transport users,
- Implementing modern technologies in passenger service and traffic information,
- Increasing the environmental balance (savings resulting from reduced pollution).
